Marc St. James is Wilhelmina Slater's assistant at MODE. He has been known to gossip, help Wilhelminia with her schemes to control the magazine, and play tricks on Betty with Amanda Tanen. Recently, he has ended a relationship with Cliff St. Paul, a fashion photographer.

A homosexual, his sexuality has lead to many humourous incidents. In one episode, he was sat on Amanda Tanen's lap and she started singing to him:

"Hush little homo, don't you cry, Mandy's gunna steal you a Prada tie"

In another, Marc was on his computer, looking at his 'Betty's screensavers of shame'

Marc: "Betty’s screen savers of shame!"Betty: "Well, they’re not quite as flattering as ones I found of you on “dudecruise.com” but they’re not bad."

Cliff was Marc's boyfriend. They met in season two and fell in love. Marc was going to go out with Cliff, for drinks, and not realizing it was a date, arranged a date with an underwear model that was on the shoot they met on. This led to Cliff confronting Marc in the Mode Offices, and Marc realizing that he wanted someone to love. They went back to Cliff's apartment, and watched the film Psycho ,
