Giovanni Rossi is the hot new sandwich guy at Mode. He's a man with big dreams, and he is enamored with Betty. In between their quarreling and bickering spats he manages to inspires Betty to use her creativity (and knowledge of Casino Royale) and pursue writing during lunchtime. It's not until his third appearance and a date with Hilda when he finally realizes that he is infatuated with Betty and genuinely likes her. Slowly he falls in love with her, but tries to not show it since Betty is with Henry. When Henry leaves, Betty goes to Gio's new sandwich shop for comfort food. He finally tells her that he understands why she keeps coming to his shop: she wants a rebound guy. Betty replies that he is an idiot. The two banter for a bit until Gio pulls her into a kiss. She responds for a brief moment, pulls away, slaps him, and walks out. That night, Betty goes to Justin's middle school dance, where she finds that Gio is chaperoning as well. He bothers her for a bit, but they finally make up as he helps her with her article. At one point they have a deep moment during a dance, but Betty pulls away from Gio. Gio goes out and finds Betty crying since she is so confused with her feelings. Gio comforts her and tells her that she shouldn't always think about others but she should "just be." When he drops her home, Betty asks if Gio wanted to go out on a date, but Gio responds no. When Betty asks why Gio responds "I don't want to be the rebound guy, I wanna be the guy."
